Muon Cooling and Future Muon Facilities
Muon colliders and neutrino factories are attractive options for achieving the highest lepton-antilepton collision energies and the most precise measurements of the parameters of the neutrino mixing matrix. The performance and cost of these future facilities depends sensitively on how well a beam of muons can be cooled. The recent progress of muon-cooling prototype tests and design studies nour...
متن کاملDis Prospects at the Future Muon Collider Facility
We discuss prospects of deep inelastic scattering physics capabilities at the future muon collider facility. In addition to μμ collider itself, the facility provides other possibilities. Among the possibilities, we present muon-proton collider and neutrino fixed target programs at the muon collider facility. This μ − p collider program extends kinematic reach and luminosity by an order of magni...
متن کاملMuon (g − 2): Past, Present and Future
A charged particle with spin ~s has a magnetic moment ~μs = gs(e/2m)~s; an anomaly a ≡ (gs − 2)/2; and μ = (1+a)eh̄/2m; where gs is the gyromagnetic ratio, and the latter expression is what one finds in the Particle Data Tables.[1] The g-value is exactly 2 for a point-like fermion in the Dirac equation, but radiative corrections give rise to a non-zero value for the anomaly a. The lowest order (...
متن کاملA Cosmic Ray Measurement Facility for ATLAS Muon Chambers
Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers will constitute the large majority of precision detectors in the Muon Spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. For commissioning and calibration of MDT chambers, a Cosmic Ray Measurement Facility is in operation at Munich University. The objectives of this facility are to test the chambers and on-chamber electronics, to map t...
متن کاملResults and Future Prospects for Muon (g − 2) *
Spin physics had its beginnings in the famous experiments of Stern and Gerlach, which eventually resulted in the postulation of spin by Goudsmit and Uhlenbeck. The Stern-Gerlach experiment told us that the g-value of the electron was 2, but we now know that because of radiative corrections, the g-value of the leptons is slightly greater than 2, the lowest-order contribution being α/π, where α i...
